Saturday

Monster Truck Throwdown returned to historic Firemen’s Angell Park Speedway Saturday night with an incredible lineup of trucks. Storms moved through the area just before show time, but a little rain wouldn’t dampen the excitement of the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin fans.

Former series champ Devin Jones in Barbarian kicked off the night with an outstanding slap wheelie to take the Wheelie Competition victory.

The racing finals would see Deidra Ballard in Miss Over Bored defeat her man Jamey Garner in Over Bored to the delight of all the ladies in the crowd. This was Deidra’s first racing win in only her third ever event.

The Donut Competition featured several great efforts but no one could match the mud slinging cyclones of Michael Thompson in Axe, as he took home the trophy.

Representing for the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department was great motivation for Michael Thompson and the Axe monster fire truck. He extinguished the competition to take the final win of the night, sending the fans home with a wild freestyle performance to remember.

Sunday

The stars of Monster Truck Throwdown returned to battle on a windy Sunday afternoon at Angell Park Speedway. All of the drivers were hyped for one last chance to take home a trophy in Sun Prairie before the series moved on to the next stop in Marion, Ohio.

The action kicked off with a fantastic wheelie contest, where the crowd would have to choose between great efforts from Barbarian and Axe. Devin Jones pulled off 2 perfect slap wheelies, while Michael Thompson got a slap wheelie of his own and then stuck the monster fire truck vertical, nearly rolling over backwards. The crowd was won over by the thrill of Axe nearly going upside down and Thompson brought home the win, dedicating it to the hometown heroes of the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department.

While Devin Jones came up short in wheelies, the Barbarian would not be denied in racing. Jones grabbed the #1 qualifying spot and then marched his way through the brackets, defeating Brad Allen and Avenger in the finals to bring home the trophy.

Former series champ Jamey Garner and Over Bored have developed a reputation for throwing down some of the best donuts in all of monster trucks. He would not disappoint the Sun Prairie fans, as he proceeded to spin wild cyclones, throwing mud and grass all across the infield of Angell Park Speedway on his way to victory lane.

Team Scream driver Brad Allen was assigned the tall task of filling in behind the wheel of Avenger this weekend, and he did his best “Mr. Excitement” impression during a near 5 minute, marathon freestyle on Sunday. Sky wheelies, slap wheelies, donuts, and big air were all included in a run that earned a huge score of 27 points and the freestyle win.

A heartfelt thanks to the great Sun Prairie fans who joined us for all the fun this weekend, and to everyone with the historic Firemen’s Angell Park Speedway for having us back. We hope to see everyone for another exciting Monster Truck Throwdown weekend in 2018!
