Monster Truck Throwdown officially wrapped up a thrilling 2017 season by partnering with Piedmont Dragway to bring a special Halloween themed “Monster Mash” event to Julian, North Carolina. Not only were fans treated to the usual high-flying Monster Truck Throwdown action, but they were also able to Trick-or-Treat with the drivers before each show, and enjoy fun activities like a costume contest, face painting, bounce houses, rock crawling, and even a pumpkin rolling contest. Matt Pagliarulo kicked off the 2017 Throwdown season right here at Piedmont Dragway back in April with an incredible performance, and returned this weekend sporting a special Halloween-themed wrap on the Jester monster truck. He came out of the gates strong, taking home the first win of the night in the Wheelie Competition. It required a great effort to beat Jeremy Hosman, after he kicked off the show by parking Reckless Drivin’ straight up and down on the tailgate.

The brand new Bad Company and driver John Gordon would make their competitive debut at this event. Gordon, the former crew chief for Ryan Anderson and Son Uva Digger, served notice that he is going to be one to watch, taking the top qualifier spot and marching his way through the brackets to take home the racing victory.

Freestyle would see strong performances from all the drivers, but the crowd really went wild when Roy Pridgeon hit the Halloween themed double jump, landing Ice Cream Man right in a big patch of pumpkins. Matt Pagliarulo would fly even further off the pumpkin jump, and added an incredible slap wheelie to take home Jester’s second win of the weekend.

The action continued Saturday night with the Wheelie Competition. Despite another nice effort from Jack Brown in the Amalie Oil Xtermigator, there would be no stopping the Jester as Matt Pagliarulo racked up another victory.

Bad Company proved to be bad fast in its debut weekend, as John Gordon once again raced his way to the #1 spot in qualifying and took home the win in the finals. The rookie driver is off to an unprecedented undefeated start to his racing career.

The Monster Truck Throwdown crew had another fun “treat” for the fans, bringing out a huge RV camper with a giant inflatable ghost standing on top of it for freestyle. Jeremy Hosman showed that he ain’t afraid of no ghost, blasting Reckless Drivin’ through the RV and knocking the ghoul to the ground to the delight of the crowd. John Gordon also brought the fans to their feet with one massive leap and a fantastic save in Bad Company, but unfortunately steering problems would bring an early end to his run. Roy Pridgeon put on another great performance in the Ice Cream Man, but it would once again be the Jester laughing at the end of the night. Matt Pagliarulo threw down big air, wheelies, donuts, and another huge leap off the pumpkin jump to sweep the weekend’s freestyle for the Jester. A big thanks to everyone with Piedmont Dragway for having us back again, and to all the great North Carolina fans for coming out to the show.

Friday

It was a perfect Fall evening at GALOT Motorsports Park where eight of the superstars of the Monster Truck Throwdown tour were set to battle it out under the lights in front of a packed house. The event got off to a great start with an exciting wheelie competition. Bryan Wright and Hooked put up two great sky wheelies as the first competitor. Kurt Phillips and the Lumberjack would put the Durkee Bar to work though with a beautiful slap wheelie to put himself over the competition. The crowd saluted him with a loud “Yap!” as he picked up the trophy in his interview.

The high speed straight-line course saw some high flying action and close racing early on in round one. Mr. Excitement Jim Koehler and the Avenger delivered some excitement early on when a bad bounce after the finish line put the truck over on its side. The bracket would work its way down to a battle of teammates in the final round as Hooked would take on the boss man, Steve Sims and Stone Crusher. The boss would come out on top this time with Stone Crusher picking up a truck length victory over Hooked.

The freestyle competition opened with Cory Rummell and Rage putting on a rocking, big air spectacle before losing the left rear wheel. The lovely Miss Over Bored and Deidra Ballard continued to improve following her recent freestyle win in Plymouth, Indiana with some big air and a pair of big sky wheelies too. Her other half Jamey Garner and Over Bored put together a big air showcase in his freestyle run and even through in a slap wheelie too.  Hooked got the crowd on its feet with a great freestyle of his own including some big leaps over the buses. Sims and the Stone Crusher would follow in Wright’s footsteps with a similar performance of big air and great momentum. Koehler and Avenger battled a broken front axle during his freestyle but still managed to turn in some of the biggest air of the night. In the end it would be a guest appearance by Kurt Phillips in the Crushstation who would steal the show in freestyle. After Phillips’ Lumberjack fell to engine issues, team owner Greg Wichenbach handed the seat over to Phillips for freestyle. The freestyle run saw some huge air and plenty of trademark Crushstation wheelies that won over the fans and judges alike for the freestyle victory. It was a spectacular opening night for the Monster Truck Throwdown stop at GALOT Motorsports Park and we can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings us!

Saturday

Day two at GALOT Motorsports Park would see all 8 of the monsters ready to battle it out for the final evening of Monster Truck Throwdown action. The wheelie competition started out with Hooked executing a perfect wheelie on it’s first hit.  However that hit would propel Bryan Wright on to his side and limiting him to just one hit. Greg Winchenbach in the Monstah Lobstah, Crushstation, would hit two perfect wheelies giving the win to the Jefferson, Maine native.

Racing would see sold runs from all the trucks, but the advancing monsters would Include Deidra Ballard in Miss Over Bored, giving the ladies in the large sellout crowd a chance to cheer for one of their own! The girl power would not last however as the Virginia Beach crew of Steve Sims in Stone Crusher would gain the crown on this rainy Saturday night with a narrow win over RAGE.

Freestyle was next on the docket, and it would not disappoint.  The early lead would go to Hooked, then it would be swiped away by LumberJack.  The ultimate trophy would eventually end up with Jamey Garner in Over Bored! Garner put on a freestyle clinic with some huge air, great momentum and a dizzying set of cyclone donuts to cap off a fantastic performance. It would be a fantastic end to a spectacular weekend at GALOT Motorsports Park. We had a great time in 2017 and are looking forward to returning in 2018 to Throwdown once again!

Saturday

The monsters would roll into Plymouth Speedway for the Saturday show and deliver on the Monster Truck Throwdown promise to entertain. Wheelies would start with Reckless Drivin and the bar would be set high ,with big air and tailgate dragging action as the first competitor.   As other monsters would come out, it would be Miss Over Bored that impressed the most until Brutus and Brad Allen would get the crowd vote with huge air and slap wheelies as a bonus.

Qualifying would see a lightning fast Barbarian set the pace that was a full 2 seconds faster than the next closes time.  This time would only prove to be just that, a fast time.  When racing rolled around it would see Devin Jones fall in the first round due to a lane violation.  The semis would see Miss Over Bored lose in a very tight race to the eventual Champion Avenger.  Ballard in Miss Over Bored was on her A-game, but she would watch her husband, Jamey Garner in Over Bored in the final.  Jim Koehler in Avenger would square off with Over Bored in the battle of Monster Truck Throwdown Titans in the Chicago style championship round.  Avenger would take the checkered flag by a truck length and get the crown in front of the large Plymouth Speedway crowd.

After a solid performance from the FMX  superstars the stage was set for Monster Truck Throwdown Freestyle. Brutus was back from earlier transmission issues, and Brad Allen would not disappoint.  One hit after another would see huge air, and the eventual breaking off of the rear tire which brought the crowd to its feet!  Miss Over Bored came out and laid down the law with a performance that was the standard until Over Bored would finish the night.  Over Bored would earn a cheer-off against Miss Over Bored, and the out come was dead even with the win going to Jamey Garner in the end!

Sunday

Brilliant sunshine and a full slate of 6 monster trucks would be on the docket for Plymouth on this glorious Sunday.  A nice crowd would see Reckless Drivin kick things off with some textbook wheelies.  Ballard in Miss Over Bored would also make her presence know as she would challenge for the lead with 2 impressive hits.  The final competitor would be Jim Koehler in Avenger, and he would get the win with two stellar big air wheelies earning the Plymouth Speedway crowds appreciation.

For the second day Devin Jones in Barbarian would be you fast qualifier and for the second day Barbarian would lose on a technicality in his round one race.  Miss Over Bored would get into the semi-finals as fast loser from round one.  She would be put against Brutus and be edged out after a solid run from Brad Allen and Brutus.  On the other side, The other semi-final race would see Avenger vs Over Bored battle it out to the North Star Ranch finish line. This was the closest race of the afternoon, and it set the table for a Team Scream championship round as Koehler and Avenger would pick up the win. The hype would be more than the actual race, as the big dog Brutus would get the win by a solid margin!

Freestyle was full speed ahead, Reckless Drivin came out with vengeance, hitting all the obstacles with the exception of the large fountain jump.  Barbarian, Brutus, and Over Bored would continue the dominance, Jamey Garner even hit the fountain and cleared it with ease in Over Bored.  Avenger would be the final act of the afternoon, and as usual, there was no disappointment. Koehler has the power, rhythm, and big air to make the crowd fall into a frenzy.  His run was awesome, but you may be wondering about Miss Over Bored, where did she finish?  After Deidra Ballard hit the track in her monster, we realized we may have seen the birth of a superstar.  Miss Over Bored had amazing throttle control, the momentum was on point, and her big air rivaled the biggest of the weekend.  Once all the dust settled it was a cheer off between her and Avenger, and on this day, it was ladies first!

Lumberjack - Monster Truck Throwdown - Bridgeport Speedway 2017

Saturday

For the first time ever Monster Truck Throwdown would take over Bridgeport Speedway. It would be an impressive debut as the speedway saw a sold out crowd and some thrilling monster truck action as well as a spectacular Freestyle Motocross performance. Following the pit party which saw thousands come out to meet the stars of Monster Truck Throwdown, the event got underway with the wheelie competition. There would be multiple good wheelies turned in by the competitors, but it was Greg Wichenbach and the Monstah Lobstah Crushstation that would tail plant their way to the victory. Wichenbach tried to pick up his second win of the night in racing, but Jamey Garner and Over Bored had other plans in mind. Garner and Over Bored would pick up another racing win on the season and defeat Crushstation in the final round. Freestyle would get wild right away with some big air from Brad Allen and Brutus. Kurt Phillips’ giant logging truck Lumberjack put in a strong effort of his own to challenge Allen for the early lead. The next competitor would be Wichenbach and Crushstation who put on a wheelie clinic with two and a half minutes of slap wheelies and big air. Unfortunately the Monstah Lobstah would suffer a blown engine in the freestyle performance and would be out of competition for Sunday. The Over Bored team looked to pick up a freestyle win along with their racing win earlier as Garner flew the truck around the course with the biggest air of the night at that time. Last but certainly not least would be Jim Koehler and Avenger who were living up to their legacy of excitement on the 20 year anniversary of the team. Koehler went ballistic in his freestyle performance with even bigger air than Garner, as well as some slap wheelies and donuts to cap off a spectacular performance. The judges had a tough decision but they gave the nod to Koehler and Avenger for the freestyle win. The sell out crowd for the first ever Bridgeport Speedway Monster Truck Throwdown couldn’t get enough as they stayed after the event for the post show autograph session well after the dust had settled. The action doesn’t stop there though, as the action kicks off again tomorrow at 2:00pm with gates opening at 11:00am.

Sunday

Following a sold out Saturday night performance the Monster Truck Throwdown team was back in action again Sunday afternoon for another packed house at Bridgeport Speedway. Mike Thompson and Wrecking Crew would make the trip down to the speedway to take the place of Crushstation who blew a motor the night before. The fans once again turned up in droves to meet the performers and see the trucks up close and personal during the pit party. Brad Allen and Brutus kicked off the event with a pair of vertical wheelies as the first competitor out. Allen would face a challenge from his teammates in Avenger and Wrecking Crew, but his efforts held up and Brutus would take the wheelie contest to start the day. Jamey Garner and Over Bored looked to repeat on last night’s racing victory and they would do just that as they knocked out Allen and Brutus in the final round for the win. The freestyle competition got underway with an exciting performance by Allen and Brutus who put together an exciting run desppite being hampered by a broken front axle. The front axle would eventually get the best of Brutus as the truck ended up on its roof in a wild rollover. Deidra Ballard and Miss Over Bored had battled steering troubles all weekend long but came out in freestyle to put their troubles behind them and have a good time. Ballard got some of the biggest air of her career with a few big hits over the bus stacks. Kurt Phillips and Lumberjack would have a break out performance in their freestyle run, as Phillips was relentless on the course. For over two minutes Phillips went for big leap after big leap with hits over the buses, vans and even the ambulance. The fans were on their feet and cheering but the question was would it be enough to hold off Over Bored and Avenger. Garner and Over Bored would turn in a high flying spectacle of his own during freestyle before breaking the right front spindle to end the run. Jim Koehler and Avenger continued the 20 years of excitement in typical Avenger fashion with the biggest air all weekend, but on this day it wasn’t quite enough. Phillips and Lumberjack would just edge out both Avenger and Over Bored for the freestyle win. It was an amazing weekend at Bridgeport Speedway for our first ever visit to the track. We can’t wait to return in 2018!

Thursday

Farmington, MO – August 3rd-4th Recap
The Monster Truck Throwdown 2017 season continued with another brand-new stop on tour at the St. Francois County Fair in Farmington, Missouri. We pulled out all the stops for this one, bringing three former series champion trucks to town, including Barbarian, Over Bored and Crushstation, along with the fan favorite Lumberjack. Maine’s “Monstah Lobstah” took the first win of the night, as Kurt Phillips pulled off one of the team’s patented “Lobster Tail” wheelies. Devin Jones was on a rail in racing, taking the #1 spot in qualifying and blowing by the competition to put Barbarian in victory lane. The other competitors are usually battling for second place in the Donut Competition these days, and that would be the case again tonight as Jamey Garner in Over Bored pulled off a crazy cyclone on his way to the win. Finally in freestyle, Kurt Phillips laid down a strong run in Crushstation, but Jamey Garner’s hard charging driving style would be enough to put Over Bored over the top to take the victory.

Friday

Beautiful weather and a packed grandstand are two ingredients for a great show, and that’s exactly what the Monster Truck Throwdown crew served up Friday night in Farmington. Kurt Phillips once again did his best Greg Winchenbach impression in the first competition of the night, burying the tail of the “Monstah Lobstah” in the cars to sweep wheelies at the St. Francois County Fair. Similarly, teammate Chris Sawicki channeled his inner Tom Durkee to defeat Devin Jones in Barbarian in the racing finals and claim his first ever series win behind the wheel of Lumberjack. With unfortunate breakage putting Jamey Garner and Over Bored out for the night, Kurt Phillips seized the opportunity to take home his second win of the night after putting Crushstation through the spin cycle. Freestyle started off with solid efforts from Lumberjack and Crushstation, but Devin Jones absolutely burnt it down in Barbarian to take the final victory in Farmington. A big thanks to everyone with the St. Francois County Fair board for having us, and to all the wonderful Farmington fans for coming out to see the show!
